How IBCC Equates A-Levels
The Inter-Board Committee of Chairmen (IBCC) issues an official equivalence certificate to convert Cambridge A-Levels into a Pakistani FSc-equivalent total out of 1100. Each A-Level grade is mapped to a numeric mark out of 100: A* = 90, A = 85, B = 75, C = 65, D = 55, E = 45. The three pre-medical subjects are scaled into FSc Part-II (600), and your Matric or O-Level conversion supplies Part-I (500).
The 10% Practical Deduction
IBCC deducts 10 marks per subject for any pre-medical subject (Biology, Chemistry, Physics) sat without a practical paper, and may add up to 10 marks for IGCSE/O-Level Add-Maths or extra coursework. Always confirm the latest IBCC notification before you rely on a final percentage — practical adjustments can swing your total by ±30 marks across the three subjects.
Worked Example
Bio A* (90) + Chem A (85) + Physics A (85) = 260/300
Part-II equivalent = 260 × 2 = 520/600
Part-I (O-Level converted) = 450/500
Total = 970/1100 = 88.18%
FAQs
Why are A-Level grades worth more than O-Levels? They aren't — the same grade table is used. A-Levels just contribute to FSc Part-II while O-Levels contribute to Part-I.
Do I need IBCC equivalence to apply for MBBS? Yes. PMDC, UHS, KMU, SZABMU and every Pakistani medical university require an IBCC equivalence certificate.
