How IBCC Equates O-Levels
The Inter-Board Committee of Chairmen (IBCC) converts your 8 best O-Level (or IGCSE) subjects into the Pakistani Matric equivalent out of 1050. Each grade is mapped to a fixed mark out of 100 using the IBCC chart: A* = 90, A = 85, B = 75, C = 65, D = 55, E = 45. The 8-subject total (out of 800) is then proportionally scaled to 1050.
Why is O-Level equivalence out of 1050, not 1100?
Because it equates to Matric (SSC), which is a 1050-mark qualification. A-Level equivalence, by contrast, is out of 1100 — it equates to FSc (HSSC), a 1100-mark qualification that combines all 11 subjects (8 O-Level + 3 A-Level). So the two totals differ on purpose: 1050 for Matric, 1100 for FSc. Both follow the official IBCC scale — the 1050 here is correct, not a typo. Doing A-Levels too? Use the A-Level equivalence calculator for the FSc /1100 version.
Compulsory Subjects
IBCC requires English, Urdu, Pakistan Studies, Islamiat, Mathematics and at least one science to count toward your 8 subjects. If you didn't sit Urdu/Pakistan Studies/Islamiat as O-Levels you must clear them locally before IBCC will issue the equivalence.
Worked Example
8 subjects: A* A* A A B B B C
Marks: 90 + 90 + 85 + 85 + 75 + 75 + 75 + 65 = 640/800
Scaled = 640 × 1050 / 800 = 840/1050 = 80.0%

| 8C | 520 / 800 | 683 / 1050 | 65.0% |
IBCC always counts your best 8 eligible subjects — extra subjects beyond 8 don't raise the total.
FAQs
How do I calculate my O-Level equivalence for Matric? IBCC takes your 8 best O-Level/IGCSE subjects, converts each grade to a mark out of 100 (A*=90, A=85, B=75, C=65, D=55, E=45), then scales the 800-mark total to the Matric equivalent out of 1050 using (sum ÷ 800) × 1050. Enter your grades above for an instant estimate.
How many O-Level subjects does IBCC count? IBCC counts your 8 best O-Level or IGCSE subjects, with English, Urdu, Pakistan Studies, Islamiat, Mathematics and a science required as compulsory inclusions. Extra A-grade subjects beyond 8 don't boost the total.
What is an A* worth in IBCC equivalence? IBCC awards 90 out of 100 for an A*, 85 for A, 75 for B, 65 for C, 55 for D and 45 for E.
Is IGCSE treated the same as O-Level? Yes. Cambridge IGCSE and O-Level are treated identically by IBCC for the equivalence formula.
Will this Matric equivalent count for MDCAT eligibility? Yes — UHS, ETEA, Sindh-MDCAT and BUMHS all accept the IBCC Matric equivalence certificate as proof of SSC.
