How IBCC Equates O-Levels

The Inter-Board Committee of Chairmen (IBCC) converts your 8 best O-Level (or IGCSE) subjects into the Pakistani Matric equivalent out of 1050. Each grade is mapped to a fixed mark out of 100 using the IBCC chart: A* = 90, A = 85, B = 75, C = 65, D = 55, E = 45. The 8-subject total (out of 800) is then proportionally scaled to 1050.

Compulsory Subjects

IBCC requires English, Urdu, Pakistan Studies, Islamiat, Mathematics and at least one science to count toward your 8 subjects. If you didn't sit Urdu/Pakistan Studies/Islamiat as O-Levels you must clear them locally before IBCC will issue the equivalence.

Worked Example

8 subjects: A* A* A A B B B C
Marks: 90 + 90 + 85 + 85 + 75 + 75 + 75 + 65 = 640/800
Scaled = 640 × 1050 / 800 = 840/1050 = 80.0%

FAQs

Do I have to count my best 8? Yes — IBCC always picks your top 8 subjects from the eligible list. Extra A-grade subjects beyond 8 don't boost the total.

Is IGCSE treated the same as O-Level? Yes. Cambridge IGCSE and O-Level are treated identically by IBCC for the equivalence formula.

Will this Matric equivalent count for MDCAT eligibility? Yes — UHS, ETEA, Sindh-MDCAT and BUMHS all accept the IBCC Matric equivalence certificate as proof of SSC.
